Manufacturer Spotlight

PEMⓇ/Penn Engineering

Manufacturer partners like Penn Engineering have played a key role in our organization’s success as a leading supplier to a variety of industries, including the defense, telecom, industrial, and commercial sectors, as well as aerospace OEMs and other subcontractors.

HTF officially partnered with Penn Engineering in 1992, marking an important milestone in our company’s history.

In 1942,  K.A. Swanstrom invented a brand new product: a self-clinching fastener with load-carrying threads that could be used in metal sheet previously thought to be too thin for tapping. And thus, Penn Engineering was born.

This new product provided a multitude of benefits, including reduced time, labor, weight and inventory on many assembly jobs. His self-clinching fastener also opened up a whole new world for engineers and designers, making a wide assortment of thin-metal designs possible for the first time.

Today, Penn Engineering is a global company supported by manufacturing and technical facilities in the U.S., Europe and Asia, serving a wide array of industries from aerospace to marine and boating, and many sectors in between. The company is headquartered in Danboro, Pa., and has facilities in China and Canada. The company employs approximately 1,000 staff globally.

Its leading fastener product, PEMⓇ, utilizes self-clinching, broaching, flaring, surface- mount, or weld technology to provide strong, reusable, and permanent threads and mounting points in thin sheet metal or P.C. board materials. PEM is the original fastener invented by Swanstrom way back in 1942. PEM is one of nine product offerings in Penn Engineering’s portfolio.

The company has continued to grow steadily over its more than 75 years in business, which includes nine acquisitions over that time to expand its capabilities and product lines. A new ownership group took the reigns of Penn Engineering in 2005 and the company celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2017.

We are proud to call Penn Engineering our trusted manufacturer partner. We appreciate Penn Engineering’s stalwart support and are thankful for all of our global manufacturer partners. The support of companies like Penn Engineering and others has been integral to our 30 years of success.
